Put the guest list together.  In order to have a great party you gotta have guests.  Putting the guest list together early in the game will give you a lot of information you will need in the later stages of the party planning.

Order the invitations.  Picking the right baby shower invitations helps set the mood for the party.  Make sure to chose invitations that closely relate to the theme of your baby shower.  To help the guests get to the party, also attach a map and driving directions from an important intersection close by.

Time to think food.  Your guests will have to eat.  When you create the menu make sure to think about snacks for all tastes.  Think about the guests that may be on a diet, think about the vegan or vegetarian guests, also have diabetics in mind.  The most important thing is to have options that will please the whole crowd, yet give those picky eaters and your special-needs guests some options too.

Entertain the crowd.  Remember you are not planning just a party, you are planning a baby shower...  You gotta have fun baby shower games planned.  Be sure to have a variety of games, have some action games, some word games and also have games that last throughout the party.
